If you got an ugly Carbine, you can shoot it like it is until you can afford to spiff it up. They are reliable like an AK, no kidding. It’s been my experience that the M1 Carbine is the most reliable auto-loading weapon the US Military has ever had. Yep, that’s $300.00 above the purchase price. Where the finish is concerned, you can have it re-parkerized for around $200.00, and you can put it in brand new wood for $100.00. This is because no one ever made any corrosive ammo for the Carbine. Regardless of the finish, I think you’ll find that the bore of 99% of all Carbines will be in very good condition. You’d be amazed that while they look right, parts often are not interchangeable. But with M1 Carbines, your options are severely limited if anything should go wrong. Seriously, with 1911’s, there’s a lot you can do to make a second rate 1911 work just fine. While the Kahr is a good commercial Carbine, the Quality is still nowhere near that of the GI Carbines. Still, for what you pay for a Kahr, you can find an ugly GI Carbine and you have a MUCH better Carbine…And I’m not kidding, they were MUCH better. The Kahr clearly is the best commercial M1 Carbine ever made. Go to know the Carbine very well, and I still have the one I picked out of the Israel lot sweetest Carbine I ever done saw. 4,000 that we imported from Israel, and 7,000 we imported from China. I know I’ve mentioned on several occasions that when I worked for Pacific International back in the ‘80’s that I went through oodles of Hi Powers and 1911’s. So, I figured I’d ask here for suggestions and opinions of the newly manufactured pistols. I just want a shooter but in many cases folks are asking collector prices for worn out junk. If I was looking for a real issued 1911 there are still lots of surplus guns around but they have been shot God only knows how many times. I’m impressed with my Kahr pistols and figured if those were made to the same standard they should be decent firearms. Real surplus carbines are all over the place in quality, condition and so forth and I’m not an expert in what to look for, so I was looking at the current Kahr reproduction. Were they pre or post Kahr buyout guns? When Kahr bought Auto Ordnance their 1911’s got a noticeable boost in quality.įair question – it’s for the same reason I'd like to get an M1 carbine. Re: Who makes a good pure military 1911A1? I've had a bunch of Springfields and currently have one in my stable.

The Remingtons look pretty military but I've not heard much about them here. They go for about double what they sold for new now. The old Norinco Model of the 1911 was a great gun on the cheap.

I've had about three Auto Ordnances and they weren't acceptable. So far the Auto-Ordnance comes closest in outward appearance, but a google search for "authentic" or "mil-spec" 1911A1 turns up either the Springfield or a bunch of old Remington-Rand and other war surplus 1911's, so I was wondering if anyone knows of any modern manufacturers still producing such a beast.

I'm really just looking for one as close as possible to what they would have issued in the military, tiny sights, rattling slide and all. The original and modern made "Series 70" models are also going for a grand or more, sometimes a lot more.

Plus I remember my father buying a "Colt Gov't Model" (so marked on the slide) in 1969 for the princely sum of $99 and complaining how damned expensive they were. That's way too rich for what I'm thinking. I was looking on gunbroker at original pre-Series 70 Colts, folks are asking upwards of $1500 and on to $2000 for them.
